Is it celebratory or offensive?
That is a question many mainstream media outlets (see CTV) are asking now as Halloween draws nearer.
I saw an interview with Caitlyn a while ago in which she said she’s OK with the costume. It’s great, she’s quoted as saying.
And given that Halloween costumes are not all about being ghastly and ghoulish anymore, many feel the Jenner costume is just one more celebrity outfit that people will wear at parties this year.
Others, though, feel the costume belittles and ridicules trans people, even suggests they are ghastly and ghoulish. But you would think that Caitlyn would have considered that before she made her statement, considering that she knows many trans people feel she is speaking for them.
What do I think? Well, I think most people who wear the costume see it as a big joke. Does it mean they think Caitlyn is a big joke? Probably. Ditto for the people who wear Donald Trump costumes. Halloween is not about honouring people; it’s about having some freaky fun.
What do you think?
