Italy: Anti-gay marriage #FamilyDay rally smaller than expected?

Early media reports were predicting “hundreds of thousands” of people would turn out for a so-called #FamilyDay rally in Rome today to protest against legislation that would legalize same-sex unions in Italy.

Now, media reports are saying “thousands” showed up. One reports says “tens of thousands.”

Whatever the true numbers, the attempt to derail the legislation appears to be a lost cause for self-righteous right-wingers who hold on to primitive, superstitious belief systems they feel gives them the right to dictate the parameters of everyone’s life experiences.

Italy is the only Western European nation that doesn’t recognize same-sex civil unions or gay marriage — mostly because of the Vatican’s influence, analysts says.

The bill is expected to be approved in the Senate by Feb. 9.

More later . . .
